Workshop: experimental methodologies for recording intimate stories

To what extent is it legitimate to make intimate stories public in the name of art, literature and poetry? What conflicts arise when exposing our own, or others’ intimate lives? Where does the need to tell stories about intimacy come from? How can we tell our stories within fragmentation, imperfection, secrecy and the process? Are there any methodologies on exploring intimacy that can be related to collaborative filmmaking?

In this workshop, we want to question the narratives around the representation of the intimate, the tensions between horizontality and authorship, and collectively create an ethical framework which allows us to work on telling intimate stories.

Intimacy is a territory that often corresponds to a feeling of shame, a nudity which makes us vulnerable. Sharing our intimate stories can be an act of love, but also an act of violence. Telling intimate stories is to walk along the edge of the abyss. Revealing and sharing an anecdote, an experience, a diary, or photos and letters heighten the need to rethink the way in which we share stories and authorship, paving the way for a permeable, careful creation, where the first person sounds like a possible common voice, without the violence of not belonging.

We will invite the participants to engage in a dynamic in which we will share images or recordings from our own mobile devices, in order to reflect on these questions and be able to come up with a methodology for recording intimate stories as a collective.

TIMETABLE: from 11:00 to 14:00 and 15:00 to 16:00. Included in the price of the workshop will be a small meal (starter and sharing plates), that we will share during the break.

Workshop led by DU-DA:
DU-DA is a collective focused on artistic mediation, investigation and production. All our projects have a relational element, foster collective processes and are frequently in tune with sensibilities that are also criticisms of the hegemonic power structures. We ask questions about the ways in which we cohabit, in order to imagine other possible presents and futures.
