“Twilight City” is a documentary about London at the end of the 1980s, a film about lost love and the end of an old London. It is a film about London’s marginal histories in the form of a mother/daughter love story.
After thirty-five years of living in London, Olivia’s mother returns to Dominica vowing never to return. They parted after a long and torturing silence. Ten years later a letter breaks the silence. Eugenia wants to come ‘home’ and she wants to be invited. Olivia is a journalist researching ‘the new London and the creation of wealth’. She drives through London collecting interview and watching the city of her childhood sink in the shadows of redevelopment. On her journey through the city she composes her reply.
Using a hybrid of fictional biography, interviews and archive footage “Twilight City” looks at those sections of London’s communities that stand to lose in this political reshaping; the homeless inhabitants of cardboard city, the lesbian and gay communities under ‘Section 28’, the vanished/vanishing communities of Lascar and Somalian seamen and the East End

Biography
‘Inaugurated in 1982 and dissolved in 1998, the seven-person Black Audio Film Collective (BAFC) is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential artist groups to emerge from Britain in recent years.
John Akomfrah, Lina Gopaul, Avril Johnson, Reece Auguiste, Trevor Mathison, David Lawson and Edward George produced award winning film, photography, slide tape, video, installation, posters and interventions that examined the diasporic African and Asian experience, being their films an exploration of documentary aesthetics and a wider meditation on social and cultural oppression that unfolds through various accounts of racism and economic decline in Britain.
