"Cabo Tuna o la gestión del cielo" is a materialist reworking of the story of artificial and digital surveillance satellites which, using only footage found on YouTube, interweaves the origins of the Nazi and Soviet arms industries with the digital surveillance systems employed in the Mexican context of the war against drug trafficking. This narrative arc allows us to explore the Mexican government’s failed attempts to create their own aeronautic rockets, through the now defunct National Commission of Outer Space, the growing dependency of foreign powers and companies on technology, the privatization of space and, finally, the current strengthening of state military control.

Biography
Unidad de Montaje Dialéctico (UMD) is a faceless artistic collective. Their refusal to show their faces, or use their own names, comes from a defense of secrecy and the collective, as a tactic to confront the logic of performance and the industrial-celebrity complex. The collective’s practice has centered around the film essay as a way to generate constellations of dialectic images that strain multiple realities and temporalities. Their work has been presented at international festivals such as Punto de Vista (Spain), FICUNAM (Mexico), FICValdivia (Chile) and Chicago Underground Film Festival (USA), among others.
