CO- emphasizes transparency in its processes and ways of working. It is an open, living laboratory, a space for investigation and participatory dialogue about new languages and audiovisual practices.
Organisation

The festival is coordinated by Zumzeig’s member-workers, but is also open to interrelation with its social base and so a voluntary commission was set up to select the films in the CO- Official Section. By means of an open call, the member-friends of the film-cooperative organised themselves to form this Committee.
The festival is driven by Zumzeig and has the collaboration of Numax.

Methodology

The aim of the CO- Festival’s Selection Committee is to begin to weave a community around collective and cooperative film, and to look at and analyze collaborative processes using a like minded, group methodology.
The first stage of forming the committee consisted of meetings at Zumzeig, where ideas, interests and audiovisual references were laid out in order to check that there were diverse viewpoints and that the films could be approached in the most plural way possible. The second stage consisted of understanding and internalizing the Festival’s concepts and values, so that they could be applied when carrying out the selection of films.

The Committee met to screen the films at the Zumzeig cinema and to discuss them as a group. These meetings were a space for critical and horizontal debate.
As much as possible, we tried to escape from isolated scoring, or simplified parameters, opting instead for oral debate in which all the members of the Commission were heard and their points of view taken into account. This way of doing things gave rise to doubts, deliberation, disagreement and negotiation, which in turn generated a continuously open, participatory and non-linear process, which allowed for the exchange of knowledge about film.
