Utopia and Subversion: Programming Queer Feminist Film with Club des Femmes

Selina Robertson

Independent programmer and film critic with over fifteen years of experience in the industry. She has worked with institutions such as the British Film Institute, BFI Flare: London LGBTQ+ Film Festival, the UK Film Council, and the Independent Cinema Office. In 2007, she co-founded the feminist programming collective Club des Femmes with Sarah Wood. The collective organizes regular screenings at venues including Tate Britain, the British Film Institute, the Barbican Centre, and The Horse Hospital.
Their most recent large-scale project, “Revolt, She Said: Women and Film Post ’68”, was a national tour funded by the British Film Institute, featuring screenings at more than 30 film venues across the UK.
Selina writes regularly for film magazines such as Sight & Sound and Film Quarterly, and frequently participates in talks exploring the intersections of feminist cinema, history, memory, and film exhibition.
She recently completed her PhD at Birkbeck, University of London, with a thesis focused on recovering the history of feminist film collectives in 1980s London.
