Sueños de viernes

Harrotu Ileak is a project conceived as a collaborative space between young people, Tabakalera, and different artists. A space for encounter, creation, and ongoing dialogue that is constantly evolving. Over time, it has become a reference point for many young people in Donostia experiencing situations of vulnerability in the city.

Zine–Lab is an independent film creation, production, experimentation, and screening laboratory, self-managed by artists and filmmakers.

During the 2023–24 course, Harrotu Ileak focused on the creation of a collective film. Together with Zine–Lab, the group explored collective representation and experimental analogue cinema. Friday dreams emerged from the long journeys many of the young participants undertook to reach Donostia, and was imagined, developed, and filmed collectively.

The film began without a fixed script. Every Friday, the group identified, discussed, and rehearsed scenes together, allowing the narrative to evolve through a shared process. Roles within the scenes moved from one person to another—“today we are the group of young people, I’ll be the police officer, you can be the border guide…”—as did the roles within the filmmaking team. The Super 8 camera was passed from hand to hand to film scenes in the city’s streets and parks. Alongside these images, the group recorded travel stories, letters to family members, and personal dreams that became part of the collective voice-over.

Friday dreams is made from all these fragments: from what is spoken and what remains unsaid. Filming became a tool that accompanied processes of arrival, belonging, and the creation of bonds within the group. The act of making the film became, in itself, the film.
