In 2075, the elders still remember. Fifty years earlier, in the Pyrenees, they took part in an unprecedented uprising against the Transpyrenean Highway, a vast motorway project intended to cut through the mountains in the name of progress, economic growth, and national unity. Through their testimonies, the story of this struggle is pieced back together. In the valleys, the project was seen as a threat to the land, the local language, and an entire way of life. In response, an unlikely alliance emerged: retired farmers, dynamite thieves, shepherds, activists, and herds of cows joined forces to defend their territory.

A speculative fable about collective memory and the power of communities to resist large-scale developments that seek to shape their future, even at the risk of unsettling the balance of an entire people. But what remains of that struggle fifty years later? Did they really manage to change the course of history?
Biography

Dètz is an audiovisual collective and creative laboratory founded in July 2010 by ten image and sound enthusiasts—both amateurs and professionals—brought together by a shared ambition: to create and experiment with new audiovisual forms while promoting the Occitan language and culture. Established as a non-profit association, it serves as a platform for emerging Occitan filmmakers.

The collective's work is structured around three main areas: the creation and production of films, educational and community engagement activities (sharing knowledge and introducing audiences to filmmaking and audiovisual practices), and the promotion and dissemination of works in the Occitan language.

Renewed in 2022, Dètz now brings together around ten active members from diverse backgrounds. The collective collaborates with the production company Piget and runs its own creative residencies.

Metodology

The film was created during a detzada, a creative residency organized annually by the collective in different parts of Occitania. This edition took place in the Pyrenees. As is customary, the project began without a script, allowing the territory, the landscape, and the people to shape the creative process.

The shoot unfolded collaboratively, with ample room for improvisation and no fixed narrative structure. Residents from nearby villages took part as performers, without memorized dialogue, in a process based on play and improvisation. At the same time, members of the collective took on different roles according to the needs of the project, without predefined responsibilities.
