Les Scotcheuses are the small mechanical tools used to cut and splice film during the editing process. It is the name we chose for ourselves. We are an artisanal filmmaking collective.

We use Super 8 cameras because they are tools that can be easily appropriated and shared with others, allowing people to understand the fundamentals of cinema. We are also drawn to the texture of the images produced by these cameras, which were originally designed for amateur and home movies. Their images have a warm, intimate quality.

The collective is a porous space: sometimes we are twenty, sometimes fewer, and sometimes more. Some of us have longer experience in filmmaking, while others bring many different forms of knowledge. We learn from one another.

Despite the challenges, we strive to create a horizontal and shared form of cinema, where hierarchies and divisions of labour are constantly questioned, and where knowledge can circulate freely. We reclaim tools so that they are not left in the hands of the enemy. Because if we have many tools and we all know how to use them, then, you see, we will be the strongest. The strongest within the cracks and interstices of a world that is trembling. The strongest with our weaknesses.

Every encounter, every opening, is like a small match that keeps the lens from closing. A way of placing our gaze where struggles and life unfold.
