Quepo
Biography
Established as a non-profit cooperative, the organization is dedicated to using cinematic language as a tool for social transformation, with a clear commitment to defending human rights, global justice, and equality.
Since its founding in 2007—during the filming of El procés del possible in Nairobi, Kenya—Quepo has grown into a benchmark within the audiovisual sector, known for its critical perspective. With a stable, multidisciplinary team of more than twenty professionals, the company has produced over fifteen original works and collaborated with numerous social, cultural, and educational organizations both locally and internationally.
Among its most notable achievements is the 2011 production of Interferències, the first feature-length fiction film licensed under Creative Commons to be screened in commercial theaters across Spain. This pioneering project paved the way for new models of open and collaborative distribution in independent cinema. Quepo’s commitment to innovation and content democratization has remained a consistent hallmark of its work.
Quepo also maintains a strong, ongoing partnership with the Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals (CCMA), for which it has produced several documentaries for the 3Cat platform. Particularly noteworthy are Essencials, premiered on TV3's Sense Ficció program, and Baula and Diambar: Feminismes en moviment, both broadcast on the Latituds program. This collaboration with public media underscores Quepo’s ability to produce content with high narrative and social impact, reaching wide audiences while upholding strong ethical and aesthetic standards.
Methodology
Quepo’s working model is based on a comprehensive 360° approach, covering the entire project cycle—from creative conceptualization and content development to production, post-production, distribution, and social impact strategies. Simultaneously, it fosters connections and collaborative networks among social organizations, cultural institutions, and audiovisual industry professionals, creating synergies that enhance the transformative power of film. In doing so, Quepo strengthens its position as a leading reference in socially engaged cinema, combining narrative quality with social and political responsibility and a clear commitment to public service.
